TITS - The big breakthrough.

In which Root announces the completion of his WordPress com to org image transfer script.

Sorry guys. TITS is The Image Transfer Script. When a user is transferring a blog from the hosted service at WordPress.com to self hosted at WordPress using the org software, exporting all the bits and bobs is tricky. The data can be exported although I think the code is a bit rough but that is down to Automattic. The blogroll can be imported directly from admin. That leaves all the images in posts. At the moment they need to all be downloaded manually. Then the byzantine file structure needs to be recreated in the form uploads/year/month. But get this. Even then the URI in the posts do not match. Not anymore.

Using my super duper Bash script I can now whoosh all the images from a to b, refile them, and reorder the URIs before you can even say "WTF is the command line"? Typical time on task: 2 minutes.

I did post earlier on a development model for this but it has now been finished. Woot. Woot. :)

Unfortunately due to the complexity of the fiddling I do not intend to make this script freely available. I can do it on a commercial basis for you. Or maybe as a favour for blogging chums.

Please note it requires ssh access to the web server

.

But if you are disappointed here is a nice picture of Paris Hilton anyway. :)
